The perfect solution to this dilemma is a nesting end table. This is a set of two or three tables that fit all together. When you only need one table the extra ones do not take up any extra room. This is because the extra tables fit into the largest one. When you have people over all you need to do is take out the smaller tables and put them wherever they are needed in the room. This gives your guests a place to put things.
Some people think that it is a good idea to use a folding card table when people visit. The problem is that these tables are flimsy and unattractive. All it takes is one person to bump into the folding table and several drinks will go crashing to the floor.
