Most of us who spend our days in an office spend much of their day sitting in a chair. Unfortunately this position can be strain on your lower back and spine leading to back problems.

To help avoid problems associated with your back and spine it is wise to have an office chair which is ergonomic. Ergonomic chairs provide proper support to your lower back and support good body posture.

There are many different types of ergonomic office chair on the market today. Each person will need to see which models work best for them. There are some options an ergonomic chair must have in order to give you adequate support.

This article will focus on just a couple of the important features your ergonomic office chair will need. One of the main features needed on an ergonomic office chair is the ability to adjust the height.

Most people find pneumatic height adjustment the easiest to use. Everyone of average height will be fine with a seat height adjustment range of between 16 and 21 inches from the floor. When seated in your chair your thighs should be horizontal when your feet are flat on the floor and your arms should be at the same height as your desk.

One of the other important features of ergonomic office chairs is lumbar support. Without proper lumber support many of us will slouch which can put painful stress on the lower spine. A good ergonomic office chair will offer adjustable lumber support so you can adjust it to provide support for the inward curve of your lower back.

You should also carefully consider the seat width and height when purchasing ergonomic height adjustable office chairs. The chair should have sufficient width so that you will be comfortable. The most common width of office chair is between 17 and 20 inches. The seat of height adjustable office chairs should be sufficiently deep so that you can place your back against the backrest with a small gap between the seat of your chair and the backs of your knees. You will also want the options of adjusting the tilt of the seat.

I found the chair that worked for me was definitely an ergonomic chair. There’s a site that I get a lot of my office stuff from, officedesigns.com and they also have an outlet store.
